Ralph Waldo Emerson writes to his brother William:

  Mother and Mrs. Brown had just returned from Helen Thoreau’s funeral. For the rest, Concord was green & peaceful for the living as for the dead (The Letters of Ralph Waldo Emerson, 4:153).
