About the event: Ben Kilham, from Kilham Bear Center, NH, will present his firsthand experience raising cubs and observing black bears.  The presentation is illustrated with in-the-field photos. Ben will hold a Q&A at the end of the event.

About the presenter: Ben is an independent wildlife biologist and founder and president of Kilham Bear Center in New Hampshire. Ben is the author of Among the Bears and Out on a Limb. Articles on his work and Kilham Bear Center have been published in the Boston Globe, National Geographic Magazine, and more. His work with bears has also been featured in many films and shows including BBC/WGBH TV, CBS, N.H. Public TV, and NBC Dateline.

Kilham Bear Center has been rehabilitating and releasing injured, orphaned and abandoned black bear cubs brought to them by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department since 1993. The Center receives cubs from New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Ben Kilham and his nephew Ethan Kilham are the primary bear caregivers. Cubs brought in early spring of one year will be released by New Hampshire Fish and Game the following spring. They begin their stay in our indoor enclosure and graduate to one of the outside forested enclosures. Being in the forested enclosure provides the cubs with the opportunity to learn and to improve their climbing and foraging skills as they would in their natural environment.
